Martial Arts Styles

At the Guildford Academy of Martial Arts, we teach several different styles of Martial Arts, each with their own benefits, so you're sure to find one to suit you.

Our most popular programme is Kickboxing. It's a fun and energetic sport ideal for all-round fitness. We teach Kickboxing classes from age 8 upwards. Classes are split into Beginner and Advanced so you're sure to find a class that's right for you.

For children aged 4 and up, we have classes 4 or 5 days a week, designed specifically for each age group. Martial Arts is fantastic for children as it teaches them discipline and respect, improves confidence, co-ordination and fitness, and gives them a great opportunity to be energetic and active and socialise with other children.

4-7 year olds: Lil' Dragons

8-12 year olds: Kids Class

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) has enjoyed a huge increase in popularity from TV shows such as the UFC, live cagefighting and movies such as Never Back Down and Warrior. Classes include elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling, and incorporate standup, grappling, wrestling, strength and conditioning. MMA students may also be interested in our Fight Fitness and Strength & Conditioning Classes which are designed to push your fitness to professional fighter levels.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from early 20th century Kodokan Judo ground fighting (Ne-Waza) fundamentals that were taught to Carlos Gracie by master Mitsuyo Maeda. Brazilian jiu-jitsu eventually came to be its own art through the experimentations, practices, and adaptation from the Judo knowledge of Carlos and Hélio Gracie, who then passed their knowledge on to their extended family.
