Watford Open 2014

A big congratulations to all those who took part in the Watford Open on Sunday 26th. We had a good result for the first big competition of the year with two 1st paces, two 2nd places, one 3rd and a semi-final placing.

Junior Instructor Daniel Hayles came back with a second in the Intermediate -85kg Light Continuous. He fought superbly and many feel he was really hard done by in the final and most thought he had won it clearly. However, he showed how much he has improved already.

Chris Northrop did fantastically well and won his first national intermediate title in the -75kg Points Category. Chris showed improved variety in his performances and we still know there is more to come!

Instructor Vaibhav Pant more than held his own in an incredibly tough section brimming with some of the best fighters in the country and also from Ireland and made it to the semi finals but lost out to more experienced fighters to come in fourth. However, he is looking more and more comfortable in the company of the very best.

Instructor Brendan Martin again showed what a star of the future he will be, winning 2 of his 3 three fights and only losing by the narrowest of split decisions to a very experienced fighter and maybe fitness at this early stage of the season. But a very well earned bronze in the -75kg Advanced Continuous section is a good start to the year.

Hristo Georgiev took a big step up from novice to intermediates in the +85kg Light Continuous category and did incredibly well to get to the final and after 3 tough battles took a brilliant 2nd place!

And Finally Chief Instructor Alex Kennedy started his new weight category with a win taking the -85kg Advanced Light Continuous title.

So all in all a great day and hopefully the start of a great year!st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:”Table Normal”; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:””; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}
